- Did you always want to be a model? Tell us about how you were discovered.

I had no clue I could model! Growing up I loved seeing the Halloween costume catalogues and I wanted to be wearing all the costumes in those mini sets they had but I never thought of it as an actual job! I got scouted my second week living in NYC at a flea market by my house that's now a Fogo de Chão, but this angel Johnny James scouted me and shot me for his brand Momento the Project, I got signed the following week. I had pink box braids I had done myself, and the parts were crazy because I couldn't afford to go get them done and I had JUST turned 19 and had gotten fired from working as a waiter, honestly I didn't even make it past training. Two years later I shot a campaign for Google Chrome outside of the sports bar I was fired from. You really can't make this stuff up. I never thought I would model, also because I was raised in a really conservative Christian household, and my mom loved fashion but the prospect of me being a model always contradicted with this intellectual appearance my parents wanted me to maintain. They both homeschooled me until I went to high school at 14, and my new friends at school, we'd drive to empty parking lots and shoot random stuff, whatever we thought was cool on VSCO really. We'd edit the hell out of those photos.

- What are your favorite forms of self care and why?

I'm actually really bad at self-care, I have a hard time relaxing but being in nature always calms me. I love kayaking and hiking. I went hiking and cliff jumping in Portugal after working for a month and a half straight, and that hit. Also working out, I go to Barry's (shoutout Jill Goodtree, my savior) and fight demons on that treadmill.

- What other passions do you have aside from modeling?

I went to school for acting! I'm obsessed with language and how it works. Poetry, films, theater, just the way human beings communicate with one another or fail to, I love figuring out how someone's mind operates. I wrote my first play this year and we held our first reading at The Dramatists Guild. It's funny because my life is a lot of shooting and taping and waiting to hear if I'm hopping on a plane or going to midtown for a last-minute casting or callback, but really, when I'm not doing that, I'm reading and texting my friends about everything I'm learning about. It's the homeschool kid in me.
